Our craft

A small studio that makes one thing at a time, on purpose.

Kindred is not a print farm with a personalization plugin bolted on. Every order is a file that gets opened, read, checked and made — and then a card that somebody writes out by hand before the box is closed.

That is slower and more expensive than the alternative. It is also the entire reason to buy from us instead of a marketplace.

What happens after you pay

Four steps, and a person present at three of them.

Step one

The file is read

Names, dates and place spellings are checked against your order notes by a person, not a script.

Step two

It is set, not filled in

Type-set pieces come straight from your preview at 300dpi. Photo pieces are rebuilt — crop fixed, scan cleaned, background separated.

Step three

It is made and inspected

Printed or engraved in small batches. If the press sheet is off, it does not ship; it gets remade.

Step four

The card is written

Your message, copied out in ink. No printed slip, no invoice in the box, no marketing insert.

Materials

What things are actually made of.

We list this because most personalized gift shops do not, and the difference between 200gsm and 260gsm is the difference between a poster and something that stays on a wall for twenty years.

Standards

The things we have decided not to do.

Written down so we cannot quietly stop honouring them. Two of these cost us money every month.

Where to go next

Read the rest, or just ask.

The proof process, the review policy and the journal all go into more detail. Or send one line and a person answers.
